well at the moment, things are being looked at... am in contact with a bunch of top guys down here who do occasional small festivals, and also the odd nights.. have access to stage, pa etc etc, and also a wealth of assorted fields, so the option of putting it on in a field, with camping, then either cheep beer tent, or bring your own... however, obviously this would cost and therefore a charge would need to be made for "camping" which would cover the cost of the entertainment, licences and various other things.. these guys are experienced at doing this sort of thing, so their experience combined with thenight before being fairly well known etc.. But of course then it would be finding a field close enough to a major city so that orange can sleep in a nice warm bed would have to be looked at..
i wonder if their is a field near the exeter travellodge
the other option is we have access to another much much bigger venue on the quay, much longer bar (about three times the size), and a vastly increased capacity (double the size), and we let the poor camp in our garden...
we are kinda learning though.. we where admittedly caught out by the amount of people this year.. we expected a full pub, but we never expected the amount of people we did...

If you can do something that lasts 3 days, with a decent line up im happy to pitch our tent North East MAG did a midweek rally a couple of years ago, called it "Skivers Rally". Tuesday,Wednesday ,Thursday as opposed to Friday,Saturday, Sunday. Proved quite popular but we ran out of volunteers to run it

Why not go for another year at the quayside but with the entertainment under the canopy opposite the Prospect? Getting a licence for a green field event will be a right ball ache, plus pitching tent for one night only will be too much of a pain in the arse for many.
If you are looking to move to a field, then perhaps look at a boozer that already has a public ents licence (plus a field next to it) then that side of things is taken care of...

using the quay is almost certainly out.. the costs are unreal... stage can be built cheap enough, however, it has to be fenced off when not in use (h&s) and security gaurds have to be on site over night for some stupid reason.. we would also have to have a rescue boat with qualified river rescue personel on the river.. weve been in discussion with the quay owners in the past and it was a planned option for this year or next, but since that the rescue boat rules etc have come in, and priced it beyond belief.. only events they have down there now are council funded ones, or the august festival.. its so frustrating that one week later the stage gets built on the quay for the august festival.. :/ feckin h&s laws

had a chat with the venue..
they admit to being completely caught out by how busy it was, (it was the busiest year so far).. if it was there again, would be at least two extra bar staff, and the top bar would be in use somehow (there are pumps, but even having a cask ale and cask cider on the bar and have purely those products sold could work to give double the bar space)
outside on the quay is a possibility but financially the cost of insurance, stage, and rescue boat etc, plus getting st johns in would mean a severe issue with paying bands.. shall see..
