nothing unless cleaning, painting and redocorating is your idea of a good night out..

the hub is closed.. gone... dead.. no more.. its a dead hub...

A lot of controversy cos its been bought by mama stone, who is about in popular in exeter as a french tart with syphallis.. We are officially pretty much deviod of music venues at the moment, all the bands are having to squeeze into tiny pubs again.. but to be fair, the hub was a shithole..

we are still looking for warmup acts, so if anyone is travelling with a guitar, mando, triangle, kazoo and wants to do a 20 minute set in return for nowt more than applause let us know.. Cheesy

Plans for the venue, which will be called Mama Stone’s, include a performance stage for live music. There will also be a bar, a kitchen serving food and a recording studio.

The decision to buy the property came after Wendy’s Wellington music academy, the original Mama Stone’s, was closed down following complaints over noise.

Wendy said: “We were devastated when we had to shut down our Wellington venue after just two years, as we had been fighting for such a long time.

“But we delighted to create an even bigger and better Mama Stone’s here in Exeter.

“It will be very different to anything else that is here already, it is just what the city’s music scene needs.”

The site, which can hold up to 250 people, is set to re-open in just six weeks time in mid August, once it has been refurbished.

Wendy said: “We are getting to work straight away with redecorating and painting the place, and the ‘soft opening’ as they say in the US will take place in August, followed by a grand opening in the first week in September.”

Joss Stone, who is currently touring in Europe, will perform with her band on the night of the grand opening in early September.

Wendy said: “Joss is looking forward to performing here as she really likes Exeter, we will release dates nearer the time.

“There will also be some other big name bands, which I can’t confirm yet.”

The business venture will create a number of new jobs in the city, including positions for bar staff and food runners.

Wendy said: “We already have our managerial roles in place but anyone working as bar staff or in the kitchen should just drop by with their CV.

“We will also be looking for local bands and unsigned local talent to perform, so demo CDs are also welcome.

“We want to provide a stage for local artists, and we are open to any music genre.

“Mama Stone's will be a place for people of all ages to come and relax and listen to some good live music.”

would of thought this would be good for exeter Undecided

it may be.. the stories have changed countless times since about march when joss was down poking her nose around.. Originally mama stone was taking it over and it was going to be big bands only and no support for local bands, which was a big no-no, she seems to have softened that approach a litlte bit and seem to be saying now that local bands are very important.. maybe she had big ideas and shes had to cut back a bit...

main reason shes disliked here is the mama stones music academy.. basically snapping up every 12-13 in year old in sight, promising them a pop star future, dressing them up in short skirts, stockings and make up and wheeling them out in front of audiences to sing pop songs badly, and the kids achiving nothing, but mama stone raking it in from the parents.. exploitive bitch i think was the phrase most often used. she wheeled a couple out at bradninch folk a couple of years ago and there where people walking out, and a sound guy ripping up her flyers in disgust.. thankfully her music school has gone tits up, and not a moment to soon.. and weve got decent people like rev running the music acadamy and actually giving them a realistic chance, and if not at least proper advice.. not "youre gonne be pop star"

as far as the venue goes, if the dumb cow can swallow her pride, stop living off the name of her now slightly washed up daughter it will be a good addition to the music scene.. but there is a lot of local opposition to her.. As for wellington, it had two years of constant complaints before the council pulled the plug on her..  but yeh, could be good, could be a nice venue, if she drops the bullshit.. Cheesy

due to open about the 22nd/23rd last i heard, with joss playing the 1st september

dmf either the phoenix or the great hall, but there gigs seem few and far between..

oh we are glad of music venues, just dont like her.. Cheesy gonna give it time, and will check it out when it opens, if she supports the local artists and people go will be great.. what we are really missing is those 70-150 capacity venues that are a decent shape for the smaller artists.. the nbi has never really been replaced from that point of view, the pubs book the same old same old. There are bits and bobs, ed has a few people played the fat pig which is a lovely little pub, and has more playing there, put its that cosy pub style mid capacity venue we are missing.. The new hub at 250 (although only 50 can see) is not much different to pheonix (400), the only small venue really now is tiggas which is 100, but you cant see past the first 20 people cos its so badly laid out.. There was plans for a great cafe bar, with art, music, poetry etc, but the recession kicked that into touch.

Give the prospect there due, they are getting more inventive with the bands they are booking and have had a few less townie bands recently..

11pm.. later was toyed with, but was decided against..
considering the state of some people the last two years, 11pm is well late enough, the staff will be worked stupid and need a break, the bands need to pack up and get ready for BD in the morning, and we decided in the end common sense should prevail.. 11pm is perfectly late enough for people if they want to get up and go to a festival the next morning.. specially the old folk.. Cheesy

Not sure of kick off time yet, but prob around 7pm maybe a little later, maybe earlier probably not later.. in fact, it wont be later
