That must be the only song to contain the word hallucinatory Top stuff again Nick, don't how you do it. So when will you be starting the follow up to the follow up to the new album then And while were at it, is your piece in the new Rock 'n' Reel or will it be in a later edition (can't wait to read it). Thanks, mate! Now there's a question... R'n'R - scheduled for the next issue - it's a long piece so you won't be able to miss it! Whether you'll wish you had's another matter. Much on, one way or another. Banjaxed. Keep in touch.

THE LAST MILE So the streets of the heart are all covered with banners again And we fall into step as we march through the dark leaden rain
Ok so I've just read this (sorry for being absent for so long) - and I've looked at the lyrics you posted for the last album, for which we guessed tunes - well, in my case, none of them anywhere near. Sooo, now, I'll just read these lyrics as poetry until your tunes, which I know are in your head with the words, become evident. thank you. and, half way through reading this poem / lyric, thinking oh no I can't hear any tune here, I thought bloody hell this is the irish trying to still control the people, even when it' s not wanted, not appropriate, but they still want their control. I look forward to hearing the tunes!

FIREBIRD
Dust on the table, dust on his sleeve, Dust in the eyes of one who would believe Locked in his blue room, stunned by the pain, Watch him disappear as the needle hits the vein But through the darkness of his dreams A flame flickers up and beams, Claws and wings fly over him again
And where flames rise and blow He flies into the afterglow Firebird
Ash from the benches, ash from the chair, Ash from the palates of the ones who mouth despair Listen to them measure and divide behind closed doors With a clattering of bones, and rats across the floor But from the ground beneath their feet Embers glow and gather heat, Make them dance before the storm once more
Where flames rise and blow He flies into the afterglow Firebird
And as this fabric burns The past becomes a pyre The molten wheel turns The firebird escapes the fire
Fire from your houses, fire from your halls, Fire from your cordons and your crumbling walls Through the hard torrents and clouds of bitter gas The lost man and his love run over broken glass As all around them breaks and bends The fierce light of dawn ascends, The firebird sings, all things must pass
And where flames rise and blow He flies into the afterglow, Firebird...
(Burbridge/Cunningham)

Extra Song. Jeremy's wanted a male/female dialogue ever since he saw Simon and Maddy Prior. Not sure if it's what he expected...
CROSSED LINES
"Midwinter day, it's cold and it's dark But I'm sorted now under the trees in the park And I know that you'll say that it's empty and wrong But when angels forsake me, it's where I belong
Listen to me, listen to me How can you hear me, if you won't listen?"
"You swear it's my distance that tears us apart But the lines that you use now run into my heart And I know that you'll say you're just fixing a hole But you deal with that demon, you trade with your soul
Listen to me, listen to me How can you hear me if you won't listen?"
"Still you won't reach me, you preach and demand" "So you cut and you hit, you bruise and you bleed" "But there's no other way to escape your command" "So when angels forsake you, you take all you need"
(together)"Listen to me, listen to me How can you hear me if you won't listen?
Riding the mainline, there's no turning back The decks are all rigged, the odds are long set Some find their way home, most fall by the track Some turn to angels, so don't lose me yet
Listen to me, listen to me How can you hear me, if you won't listen?"

Ta. I'll be putting the guide tracks down when TC gets back from Germany next month. (Paley's stuck in Spain right now) Dil and Mat'll get together in the summer, when Dil gets a break from the Oysterband, and put the drums and bass down. Jeremy should be on at least a couple of tracks. Then the rest, as and when. Everyone's well up for it. No compromise. Madhouse had a bit too much flannel, I think. This one should hit the spot just right, though you never know. And then? Strange things happen... Oh, and meanwhile I'm doing reviews for R2 (was Rock'n'Reel) now, maybe some articles. No money. Interesting all the same. My head's a marley, but then what's new? All the best with this garden.

I'm glad of that! But the aim'll be to keep the kind of things that worked, cut back the kind of things that didn't, and then branch out a bit. it's great to know there's still interest. Thanks. And if other stuff gets sorted, it'd be good to give it all an airing some time some place. Meanwhile, back to the grindstone...
